Code Rescue 0.18.0 – More languages with a voice
Until now, several languages were silent or had only a simple voice. That changes now: Indonesian, Thai, Vietnamese and Traditional Chinese (with a Taiwanese accent) are fully voiced – REPL, the AI sphere and every character, with a female and a male voice. Romanian now speaks with a female voice, and Ukrainian replaces its simple placeholder voice with a more natural voice of its own for every role.
The new voices are designed on the computer – they are synthetic voices, not real people. Each language has a female and a male voice with a calm, friendly tone.
If you pick the male REPL when starting a game, you now hear him with a real male voice in 27 languages instead of a female voice shifted lower.
More than 10,000 lines were created in total. Every line was checked by an automatic listening test; if one sounded wrong, it was generated up to three times and the clearest take was kept – that applied to 634 lines.
Not quite finished yet: Czech and Hungarian are only partly voiced, Romanian still lacks its male voice, and Indonesian, Thai, Ukrainian and Vietnamese are still missing the new airlock lines. Bulgarian stays text-only for now. Where a voice is missing, you still see the text. All of this follows in 0.18.1.
