Code Rescue 0.1.0 – the playtest begins
With version 0.1.0, Code Rescue enters its Steam playtest. It is the first version we are handing over – and from now on, every version gets a number, a changelog and an entry here in the devlog.
What it is about
A city whose code has fallen apart. You arrive as a rescue developer in the briefing room, put on the AR headset and repair whatever is broken, one terminal at a time. Every solved task brings back power, light and life – you see your progress in the world, not just in a list.
What the playtest contains
- Tutorial Island with 20 tasks to get started, then the ferry across to CodeCity.
- Five districts, each with its own language and its own look: PHP in the factory halls, Python in the academy on the jungle beach, C# under the underwater dome, JavaScript in the neon garden and Rust in the castle ruins. Each district rebuilds in five stages, from ruins to full splendour.
- Around 190 tasks in many formats: fill in the blanks, bug hunts, predictions, reviews, free coding and refactoring, plus logic puzzles.
- Real code: PHP, Python and JavaScript run in real runtimes, C# and Rust in interpreters of their own.
- Wind turbines and solar fields in every district, which you bring online with your own code.
- REPL, your companion, and tools you unlock as you rank up: test run, console, step mode and code lens.
- Basics for anyone who has not typed much yet – with a typing trainer and a character doctor that finds special characters on your keyboard.
- Music for every area, the first spoken dialogue in German and 31 languages.
Not finished yet
Code Rescue is in the middle of development. Some things are still missing, and some will change a lot. That is exactly what the playtest is for: with “Send feedback” in the main menu and the pause menu, you can send bugs, wishes and impressions straight from the game. We read everything.
Thanks for playing!
